We have some informal chat after every arti, the "post-arti party"! But once a week, Jeff Wolverton joins us for some serious mining of the spiritual depths. Join us for conversation, more readings, songs, quotes - you never know what treasures will be uncovered! Dear Friends in Baba,Our guest speaker today is Meherwan Mistry. Meherwan is the eldest of three sons of Jamshed (“Jim”) and Roda (nee Dadachanji) Mistry. His two younger brothers are Framroze (Falu) and Sarosh -all three were named by Meher Baba. They grew up in a Baba family in Bombay and were fortunate to have contact with Meher Baba and His mandali during their childhood and teenage years. Roda is the paternal niece of Framroze Dadachanji (“Chanji”). Chanji first met Meher Baba in 1924 and soon became His disciple and first secretary. Later, other members of the Dadachanji family met Meher Baba in 1926 when Roda was a two-year-old child. Her siblings were Arnavaz, Nargis, Tehmtan, Huma, Dara and Naozer. Their parents were mother Bachamai and father Naoroji (brother of Chanji) and the entire Dadachanji family loved Meher Baba as their beloved Master. Five generations later, their children, grand, great and great-great grandchildren follow in their footsteps in doing the same. Blessed is such great felicity of all lovers of Avatar Meher Baba.Come and join in for another wonderful sharing by Meherwan, who will regale us with his many stories and experiences with Baba, mostly in times spent at Guruprasad during the summers of his adolescent years. We have some informal chat after every arti, the "post-arti party"! But once a week, Jeff Wolverton joins us for some serious mining of the spiritual depths. Join us for conversation, more readings, songs, quotes - you never know what treasures will be uncovered! Dear Friends in Baba,Our guest speaker for Sunday, October 22nd is Merwan Mehta. Merwan Mehta was born into the Satha family. Nosherwan and Phiroze Satha came to Baba in the 1910-20 period when Baba had just established himself in Meherabad. The Sathas were 5 brothers and 4 sisters, who all became earlier followers of Meher Baba after Nosherwan and Phiroze contacted Baba. Gaimai Satha was their sister and she was Eruch and Meherwan Jessawalla's mother. Merwan's grandmother Shirin was one of their other sisters. The Sathas lived at Akbar Press in Ahmednagar, where Baba used to visit on His way from Meherazad to Meherabad. Merwan's mother remembered cooking and feeding Baba early in the mornings. When Merwan was born, Baba sent a message through Eruch that Norina has come back, and the boy should be named Merwan. For his growing years, this was quite a burden as everyone tended to not know how to handle this information. Presently, Merwan thinks it really does not matter what you were or from where you came, but only in where you are headed.Since 2004, Merwan has been a professor in the College of Engineering and Technology in Greenville, NC. His area of interest and specialization is operational and process excellence. He and his wife Rukshana have a daughter and son who reside in Durham, NC. Merwan feels thankful to live close to the Baba center in Myrtle Beach, which he can visit often. For one term, he was a director for the center.Folks, this promises to be another wonderful evening spent in the company of one who had a unique childhood and upbringing in a Baba family, especially in view of his being the same soul as Norina, as Baba indicated. So come join us with your questions for Merwan, as we learn more about how he incorporates Baba's teachings into his present life. Dear Friends in Baba, I am pleased to let you know that we have lined up a wonderful list of guest speakers for the next few weeks, while our dear Jeff is in India.Starting off this Sunday, October 1st., we have Irwin Luck to share his intimate times spent with Baba in the early '60's, with a plethora of stories and teachings of Beloved Baba. They travelled extensively to many countries in the early '70's and have recorded the life stories of many close Baba lovers, including my father, Minoo Kharas, in Karachi. I hope you will join us in welcoming Irwin and sharing your thoughts and questions. We have some informal chat after every arti, the "post-arti party"! But once a week, Jeff Wolverton joins us for some serious mining of the spiritual depths. Join us for conversation, more readings, songs, quotes - you never know what treasures will be uncovered! Topic: Dressing Our Soul with BabaDear folks of Baba, We will be finishing up Darwin’s chapter on worry, and then starting the one on "Dressing Our Soul” on page 89, which is an invaluable meditation that will reward you for a lifetime. In this practice, Baba asks of us only four seconds of remembrance a day, and in exchange, He promises that we will eventually feel His presence all the time, whatever we are doing. Also called Sahaj Dhyan, meaning natural meditation, Baba first introduced this practice to the eighteen Western men invited to Meherabad in 1954 during what became known as “The Three Incredible Weeks.” The first thing in the morning, before starting our day, we dress our soul with Baba; at noon, again around five o’clock and just before going to bed. Just in the length of time it takes to adjust your tie, Baba told the men. What does it mean to dress your soul with Baba? Baba left the interpretation of that to us. Some picture their body being infused with a warm presence. Others might think of it as being wrapped up in a warm down coat worn in cold weather. Or it might be a deep delving into the innermost blissful realm of the spirit within. It is entirely individual and unique to each one. And as Darwin said, it "has the potential of markedly raising the consciousness of those who do." Someone might ask, how can just four seconds a day result in such a profound experience? No meditation teacher would get any substantial results in their students with such a simplistic, brief daily practice. But it is God Himself asking this of us! And Baba is very clever in introducing this. Darwin used to say, for example, as we approach twelve noon, we might check our watch or clock and it’s only 11:15. Well, why not dress our soul then in case we might be too busy later and forget. And if we miss noon and it’s 12:20, do it then. In this way, at various times other than the four seconds of remembrance Baba asks of us, we are dressing our soul with Him. Eventually it becomes such a rewarding practice that we begin doing it at any time of the day and before you know it, a series of moments is strung together like beads on a string and we move toward having His presence throughout the day! Baba is such a "sneaky sweetie” as Mansari, one of the women mandali, used to call Him! And inevitably and unexpectedly, who Baba is to us and where our soul is goes on expanding and deepening in a most natural way! Doug Ross, a Baba lover from the San Francisco Bay Area, has made an audio recording of the entire book, Effort and Grace, which you can access and listen to, even as you go for walks or when you’re driving to work. A precious gift from him. This is his email address until I know the link: Douglas Ross DC He will assist you with the link. Each session evokes invaluable discussion that does not require having attended the previous sessions; each section stands alone and provides a window into the inner life of the lover/Beloved relationship and is virtually independent, like facets of one diamond—Baba. Join us for conversation, more readings, songs, quotes - you never know what treasures will be uncovered! Topic: Eradicating WorryDear folks of Baba, This Sunday we will again explore Darwin Shaw’s book, Effort and Grace, which is an in-depth inquiry into the inner life with Baba. It describes one of the major approaches to Baba by one who was devoted to Him for over 70 years, which culminated in a glorious intimacy with Him. Darwin was always so encouraging and optimistic in what we can do to open up to Baba’s immediate loving presence. He asserts that many of the blocks to this intimacy can be removed by our efforts and by inviting Baba’s ongoing intervention and grace. In the chapter, Eradicating Worry on page 84, Darwin tackles the whole complex struggle to eliminate worry from our consciousness. Baba says there are few things that rob our psyche of energy more than worry. In most cases, because worry isn’t often experienced as something of serious and tangible consequences, it is seen as something relatively harmless, a nagging bother, but it surreptitiously drains our vitality during the course of the day. I was always amazed at how worry seemed to be absent from Darwin’s consciousness; he had a supreme trust and faith in Baba that I was unable to achieve myself. It was something to behold. He would quote Baba, “Don’t worry. Let Me do the worrying. I enjoy working things out.” In the difficult situations in his life, Darwin always honored Baba’s wish to work things out Himself. He had the humility to ask for Baba’s help, not to stand in the way and try to do it all himself. Eradicating worry is one of the last hurdles to be crossed in gaining control of the mind. It requires several attainments, among them: not to make so much of the outer events of life so that they become secondary compared to the inner life; to become more profoundly aware of the deluding power of imagination. Mark Twain, the American humorist, once said, “I’ve been through many trials and tribulations in this life, and most of them never happened!” In addition, we must strive to unfailingly hold our mind accountable for its misleading assertions, otherwise our worrisome mental patterns will only continue. As long as worry preoccupies our mind, the ego takes center stage and our focus on Baba is pushed to the background. But when Baba is in the foreground, when we return to Him again and again in thought, worries automatically dissolve in His loving presence. What are some of the methods you use to overcome worry? When you have trouble controlling worrisome thoughts, do you have ways of giving this fearful emotion to Baba? When the imaginary worry about some situation is over, do you say to your mind, “You said I should have been worried about this situation and it turned out everything worked out fine.” Can you look back on your life to all the adverse and disagreeable things you thought would happen and see that it was all worry for naught. Have you experienced Baba’s actual intervention in rescuing you from a seemingly impossible situation? How deep is your faith that Baba is truly there to help? Whatever you do, though, don’t worry about worrying. I once asked Meherjee Karkaria, one of Baba’s intimate mandali, what method he had for overcoming worry. He gestured with his hands circling around his head, as if besieged by thoughts, “Around Baba, I was always worrying!” Doug Ross, a Baba lover from the San Francisco Bay Area, has made an audio recording of the entire book, Effort and Grace, which you can access and listen to, even as you go for walks or when you’re driving to work. Topic: How has Baba enriched your life?Dear folks of Baba, How has Baba enriched and expanded your life? Choose one or a few of the ways, large or small, that He has transformed the life you once led. Mehera, Baba’s beloved, has said, “If you were to thank Baba for all that He has done for you, your whole life would not be long enough."Were you once shy and reserved, and Baba has opened you up with more confidence and ease around others? Were you once in a subjective bubble, mainly self-preoccupied, and He has broadened your interest in others and the world around you? Were you fearful of what lay ahead in your life, depressed about how your life would turn out, and Baba has profoundly changed your outlook? Were you materialistic, attached to a worldly life, and He has opened up a rich interior life that has made life so much more expansive? Were you often critical and judgmental of others and now find yourself so much more tolerant and your interactions more fulfilling? Were you very critical of yourself, never feeling that you were enough, and have found through Baba a much greater self-acceptance and compassion toward yourself? Were you profoundly caught up in living in the past and the future, and Baba has opened up a greater living in the present? Were you once living primarily in your head, constantly besieged by thoughts, and now Baba has brought your awareness more abidingly down into the deeper feeling realms of the heart?Did you struggle with unworthiness, always falling short, and Baba in His own intimate ways has made you feel loved and appreciated just as you are? Were you once hopelessly addicted to one substance or another or a type of behavior that Baba has gradually freed you from and restored you to a healthy and joyful life? Were you once envious or jealous, always comparing yourself to others, and Baba has helped you to appreciate what you have and are now more focused on unfolding your own talents and interests? Were you living a conventional, routine life and Baba has unlocked a creative and spontaneous life? These are only a few of the ways Baba may have enriched and expanded your life and awakened a deep gratitude for all that He has done. It would be so touching and interesting to hear some of the ways Baba has intervened in your life.In His love, Jeff To join the email list for Late Night Chats, contact AngelaThis event was recorded live. Late night chat centered around our Beloved. A sharing of hearts led by Margi Connor and Peter Goodman.Jai Baba! Alisa, Jeff, and I have been working together on the Gen XYZ Sahavas, which is happening this Saturday, September 2. Alisa and I were working together on an intergenerational sahavas in London, which she will still be attending. She was the first guest on the God In The Real World Podcast on our series "Perceptions of Disconnection", where we spoke with different people from different age groups to get their hot take on the issue. She has two lovely children who are heavily involved with projects in the Baba world. Alisa is on the Heartland Center committee and has her hands in many other pots all over the Baba community. All that aside, I have always found her to be someone, as a young person, that I connect with so easily, and know that she is extremely passionate about this subject.I thought what a perfect time, just before this XYZ Sahavas to hear Alisa's take on the intergenerational divide and connection in the Baba world. Alisa and I will also share some of our motivations and intentions for this upcoming sahavas program. Feel free to chime in and ask questions--we may have some for you ;)In His Love,Margi and PeterTo join the email list for Late Night Chats, please contact AngelaThis event was recorded live.
